When we leave school, we are ready to explore the world, find ourselves, fall in love, fall out of love, live in a share house, live by ourselves, get full time employment, surf full time, experiencing all of this and much more in the shortest period of time. So being ready to tackle the world and make a difference within it, you would think that by this age we would be well equiped with the basic life skills, to do this; but unfortunately in the modern world a lot of these traits aren’t being equipped to our future generation. which I will say now, (this is definitely not a blame or hate blog towards parents, teachers or any individuals). But it is unfortunately true, and I believe that the education system needs updating to involve a wider range of skills that are needed in our everyday lives. We should be equipped enough with the basic skills, to live and be apart of our communities, and these lessons should be incorporated into our curriculums and learnt on a daily basses, along side and in conjunction with maths, English, science and our other common classes.
But until and even after that happens I would like to create a space for everyone to feel welcome to come and learn new skills and mindsets, not only for everyday living but for living a fulfilling life. Through personal views, factual/non-factual information, interviews; on a vast range of skills, from paying taxes, changing a car tyre, how to travel, healthy eating habits, inspirational stories, goal setting, communication skills, stress management. Because these are the skills that we need to survive on our own and are a lot easier to learn now, then through expensive fines, poor health, or being trapped ‘in the middle of who knows where’, unable to change a tyre.
